Probable reasons why the markets are down: 1. Overleveraged positions are continuing to get flushed 2. AI is exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities - people want (and/or expect) the brakes to be put on AI 3. Gold is (unjustifiably?) threatened by nuclear fusion
